DJ Tom Tuttle

Speaking
at a wedding, before a group, committee, in front of TV cameras, or into a radio microphone can be really scary for many of us, especially if
we rarely do it. Tom can help you work with your fears that
get in your way of achieving your goals.
He has watched hundreds of
gifted students with the ability to write a great speech become paralyzed by
so much fear they had trouble delivering it effectively.
Tom provides useful tips and
techniques to help you become more comfortable at a wedding, in front of a
group, committee, before TV cameras, and with radio microphones. Work
together with Tom toward finding your most comfortable zone as a speaker.
One-on-one work
with Tom can be especially helpful for those who plan to speak before civic or
town committees, or business groups.
Tom's will
help you:
-
Identify obstacles that
are getting in your way as a speaker, and discover ways to work with
(instead of against) your fears as they begin to surface.
-
A little vulnerability
can actually help you to better connect with a group.
-
Learn to ask yourself
what is at stake when in front of a group.
-
Is your fear or anxiety
in front of groups real or perceived? Are they really throwing stones
at you, or are you only imagining it?
-
Getting comfortable
making eye contact with your audience, and learning not to rely on old-fashioned methods,
such as looking at the back of the room
over your audience etc..
-
Learn to work with your
breath, and to breathe and feel, so your fear can loosen its emotional grip.
-
Discover that fear is
your friend, and the ultimate energizer; that with practice, channeling your
fear can actually help you
to perform better!
-
Practice presenting small
extemporaneous speeches to help
build your self-confidence
-
Learn the importance of
taking a more casual approach to speaking before groups as a way to get
comfortable
-
Learning that in the end,
it's okay to be nervous and to show some vulnerability. It can
actually work in your favor and bring you closer to your audience than the
overconfident speaker that is just going through the motions.
-
Learn to give yourself
credit for having the courage to get up before a group.
-
Finding and developing
your unique voice by practicing a series of exercises before the group.
-
Visual yourself
successfully speaking before a group.

Student Testimonials
A CEO of a local well known home
a garden center who
recently completed Tom's workshop:
"Hi Tom,
I was just invited to be the Keynote Alumni speaker at
my Fraternity's annual Northeast Convention luncheon next
month in Portland Maine in front of 350 people!
(That reminded me I said I would send you a testimonial)
I took several deep breaths......and then decided I
would say yes.
I probably would have said no, if I had not recently taken
your workshop on
getting more comfortable with public
speaking.
Now that I have learned some valuable techniques, I will be
able to relax more and feel confident in my presentation
ability.
I view my speaking engagement as an opportunity to put the
tips you taught me to practice."

This is a 3 night workshop.
Each night is 2 hours (6:30pm to 8:30pm) with a short break around 7:20pm.
Basic Workshop
Outline (Activities may vary
depending on time and number of students. This class is limited to 20
students)
Week #1
Introduction and overview. Individuals will introduce themselves and
share what inspired them to take workshop.
Practice a few simple exercises before
group to find your current comfort level before a group. Some exercises
will be done in small groups.
Week #2
Each student presents a simple 1 minute speech before group and receives input
and guidance from Tom, students are also encouraged when asked to provide
input to help each speaker.
Week #3
Final presentation. Each
individual presents a talk or speech and will be offered input and
feedback by Tom, and by
classmates (when asked by Tom for input). Studies have shown positive
and constructive criticism to be far
more useful to help a a speaker student improve than pointing out any so-called
negatives.
Confidence is developed by giving support,
credit and appreciation to each speakers effort. Emphasis will focus on
what a speaker does well, and also on areas that could be improved.
